Winter Night

My hands were ice cold. My head was pounding and hurting so bad. I wanted to get home. I was walking on the street on a winter night. I had stayed at my friend's house but she didn't offer me a ride. I just remembered I had an extra jacket in my backpack. I put it on and felt a little bit warmer. It is about thirty-five degrees outside. My mother was probably worrying and scared to death because I wasn't home yet. I was about a mile away from home. I heard something behind me and turned around. Nothing is there. I heard feet walking behind me. I started getting a little scared. I started walking faster and my feet were getting numb. I heard something run behind me and I ran as fast as I could. I don't care if I lose my bag. I just want to get home. My heart was pounding faster and faster and I couldn't breath. I had to stop. Something jumped on me and started licking my face. I said, "Brownie!" Brownie was my friend's dog. She must have followed me. The rest of the way home I felt safe with Brownie.

Part 2:

When I got home, my mother said, "Why are you home so late and why is that dog here?" I said, "My friend wouldn't offer me a ride home. That is Brownie. She followed me home." I knew I had a smile on my face and was relieved that I was finally warm. She said, "I'm very disappointed in you. Go to your room and you're grounded!" I said, "What? I didn't even do anything!" She said, "You could at least called me." I ran up the stairs mad and Brownie followed me. My mother scooped Brownie up and threw her outside. I said, "Mom! Don't do that! She will freeze!" She said, "Brownie can walk home like you did." I walked back downstairs and went outside to get Brownie. My mother said, "I'm taking your computer away and your phone." I said, "Mom! Please don't do that. You're making such a big deal about this. Let's just keep Brownie inside and i'll take her to my friend tomorrow. I promise I will call you next time somebody will not take me home." She said, "Since you felt so safe with Brownie tonight, how about you take her back? Then I will go pick you up. If you do that I will not take your phone and computer away." I said, "That doesn't make any sense. But I will walk Brownie home anyway."

Part 3:

I was really mad since my mother made me walk home again. But at least I had Brownie with me. I saw a car drive past me. A guy said, "Hey girl. Why you out here so late?" I said, "It's really none of your business." He said, "Want a ride?" I said, "No thanks." I keep walking and he keeps following me. He says, "I'm going to follow you to make sure you are ok." I say, "If you keep following me I will call the police." He drives off quick and I can hear his wheels squeak. I'm almost to my friend's house thankfully. My legs feel like they're going to fall off. I look down to see Brownie and she's gone! How can you not see a dog run off? I yell, "Brownie! Brownie! Brownie!" She doesn't come. I might as well walk to my friend's house so I can look for Brownie with her. I'm on her porch and ring the doorbell. Her father comes to the door and says, "Why are you here so late?" I say, "My mom made me walk here to give you Brownie but she is gone." He said, "I'm sorry you had to walk here. Brownie has been here the whole time." I say, "What? I thought the dog that I walked down here was Brownie." He said, "No. Brownie has been in this house ever since you left." I think who's dog is it and where is it?

Part 4:

I'm still wondering whos' dog it is. My mother comes by and picks me up. She says, "Hey honey. Did you give Brownie back to your friend?" I say, "Brownie was never with me." She says, "Oh. Well don't worry about it." We come home and I went straight to bed. It is about twelve and i'm still worried for some reason. I heard a doorbell ring. My mother was talking to some guy about a dog. My mother said for me to come down there. He said, "Your dog jumped in the back of my truck." I say, "Oh. It's not even my dog." He says, "Oh ok. Well it says Brownie on its collar. Do you know anyone with the dog named Brownie?" Wow. This is really weird. I don't think there is anyone else in the neighborhood with a dog named Brownie. I don't think I will be sleeping tonight.

Part 5:

I brought the dog up to my room. It looked exactly like Brownie. The fur, color, eyes, size, and ears. I couldn't tell a difference. Maybe my friend's dad was lying. He might have just left the dog on the street. I will figure it out. My mother says, "Are you going to keep that dog?" I say, "No. I'm going to my friend's house." She says, "Ok. I will take you." My mom drove me to my friend's house and dropped me off. She says, "I'll pick you up in thirty minutes, ok?" I say, "Ok." I walk up to their porch and ring the doorbell. My friend's dad says, "Why are you here again?" I say, "I just wanted to bring Brownie." He said, "How did you find out?" I say, "Found out about what?" He says, "About me dropping off Brownie." I say, "Clues. Why?" He says, "I've never liked Brownie." My friend comes out and says, "You have never liked Brownie?" Her face is blood red. She walks back to her room and takes Brownie. She says, "Thanks for bringing Brownie back to me." I say, "No problem." We smile at each other. My mother picks me up. We are finally home. I go up to my room. My clock says it's three thirty. I think about today and how it has been a weird day. I look beside me and Brownie is in my bed! I say, "Oh no here we go again."
